NEET PG and NEXT exams are extremely pivotal for medical students, therefore before preparing for them, all aspirants must be aware of the pattern of the exam.

4 marks are awarded for one correct answer and 1 mark gets deducted for every wrong answer in the NEET exam. The primary objective of negative marking is to obstruct the element of guessing during the examination.

There are certain strategies for tackling negative marking. We are here not only to share a few high-yielding tips but also to guide you to prevent loss of marks due to negative marking in NEET PG and NEXT exam.

5 golden tips to shun negative marking in NEET PG and NEXT:

1. Use the elimination method

In the examination where questions are in the form of MCQs, the elimination method is advised to use. In difficult entrance exams like NEET PG and NEXT, which often intimidate students with negative marking, the technique of eliminating and reaching the correct answer increases the probability of gaining 4 marks rather than losing 1. But though the elimination method works well, it should be used in only round 2 when you have actually gone through all the questions in round 1. A strong intuition that your answer would be correct should only be the objective when using elimination methods, or this way you end up losing marks.

     2.    Do not think of attempting all the questions

In NEET PG and NEXT, it is not sufficient to answer all the questions because it is more important to select the right questions whose answer you are sure of. But if you are a ranker, attempting all questions won’t be harmful.

Guessing is a very typical habit of a student which is to be avoided in the examination hall. Use your ‘’intelligent’’ prediction of answers only if you have some idea of it.

     3.   Don’t get too attached to a question

Identify the questions you feel comfortable answering in the beginning. If you encounter a question where you get stuck then don’t waste ample time in answering it, and again avoid any guesswork here. Don’t give a question for more than 1 minute, rather find the question which you are sure of.

     4.  Do not rush, read and re-read

During your exam, read the questions and the options extremely carefully. It is one of the key tips to avoid negative marking. At times, the answer to the MCQs is all of the above, and students get trapped by reading only one or two options. The questions in NEET and NEXT can be deliberately drafted as tricky and confusing, therefore go through the options mindfully and decipher the answers accurately.

     5.  Practice makes a man perfect: Give mocks and analyze

Giving mock test is the best way to evaluate your weaknesses and strengths, take mock test available at egurukul. If you make a habit of giving mocks you can reduce your chances of attracting negative marking. Therefore, try giving plenty of mocks before your exam, as it will not only help in assessing yourself but also in increasing your speed and in improving your way of approaching questions to prevent any negative marks.

We hope these tips will be helpful for you in your NEXT and NEET PG exams. Stay determined and prepare well.
