What is MBBS Internship in India?

The Compulsory Rotary Residential Internship refers to one-year mandatory work in hospitals attached to the medical college or any other recognized teaching hospital. Soon after the completion, the student is awarded a registration certificate. Later, the MBBS graduate can become a practitioner of medicine only after he owns the registration certificate issued by MCI.

MBBS Internship Salary in AIIMS –

MBBS Internship In India – Compulsory Time Duration

M.B.B.S. graduates will have to complete a rotatory internship in different fields of medicine for a compulsory duration. The total duration of internships in all the fields is of 12 months. The compulsory fields for the internship for one year are as follows:

MBBS Internship Logbook

The Internship Logbook contains the record of the work done by an Intern and must be signed by the appropriate authority.

  • It is compulsory for an intern to maintain a record of the procedures done/assisted/observed by him or her on day to day basis in a prescribed log book.
  • Failure to produce the log book at the end to the concernd authority can lead to the cencellation of his/her performance in the Internship Training Programme.
  • The intern has to maintain the record of work which is to be verified and certified by the medical officer/Head of the unit whom he works.

The satisfactory completion shall be determined on the basis of the following-

Poor/Fair/Below Average/Average/Above Average/Excellent. The assessment will be done by the respective head of unit/medical officer and entered in the logbook itself at the end of the posting.

Evaluation Process of the MBBS Interns

The evaluation system will assess the skills of a candidate while performing the minimum number of procedures as enlisted with the objective that successful learning of these procedures by a candidate will enable him to conduct the same in his actual practice.

Thus, the evaluation will be done on or before the completion of the posting in the following disciplines-

  • Medicine and Allied Medicine Department
  • Surgery and Allied Medicine Department
  • Obsetrics and Gynaecology Obst. and Gyn. Department
  • Community Medicine Department

After the evaluation, the concerned Head of the Department will submit the statement of marks obtained by the candidate, to the university and the concerned Head of the Institution, against the marks obtained. The candidate has the right to register his grievance in any aspects of the conduct of evaluation/award of marks, separately to the concerned Head of the Department and Head of the Institution within three days from the date of the completion of his evaluation.
