The best time to start preparing for the final exam

The MBBS final exam is tough. This examination tests your basic knowledge as well as your practical skills. When to start preparing for this exam depends on the student’s dreams and aspirations. If, as a medical aspirant, you want to score good marks and secure a good internship, then you will have to be serious about the examination from the very start.

The MBBS syllabus can be covered within a time frame of three months. But during these three months, students will need to focus only on their studies. Covering the syllabus also depends on a student’s ability to learn and retain. The more time you invest, the stronger your preparation. It also gives you the time to analyze your strengths and weaknesses.

Things you should do in the final year of MBBS

●  Focus on your studies. Make sure that you are preparing for the final exam from the beginning of the session.

●  Do not waste your time watching TV series or playing online games. Utilize your time wisely.

●  Create an effective study environment. Create a place that motivates you to study with focus. Get into the habit of going to a library to study.

●  The best way to study is to create a routine. Create a routine that perfectly suits you and your requirements. More importantly, make sure to follow the routine.

●  If you are someone who doesn’t like to study alone, then form a study group. Select people who are also interested in studying in a group.

●  Take reference from the best books. Find them and use them to strengthen your preparation.

●  Make a habit of preparing notes. Take good notes during classes.

●  Get in touch with a senior who is sincere and helpful.

●  Follow the three Rs: Read, Revise, and Repeat.

●  Do not forget that you have spotters and OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) in the final exam.

●  Once your syllabus is complete, do not be overconfident. Keep revising.

●  Do not leave the practical record and understanding for the last minute. Revise everything from the beginning.

●  Do not waste time. Take breaks, but not long ones.

A study plan for six months to 1 year for the final MBBS exam

●  Make a habit of studying for 4-5 hours daily, initially. Slowly increase the study time and bring it up to almost 14 hours a day by the last three months.

●  Make sure your sleeping schedule is undisturbed, and that you get an adequate amount of sleep.

●  Prepare a schedule and divide time for studying theory, practical and different modules. It helps cover each topic.

●  Do not overdo yourself. Keep Friday night or Saturday night free and relax. Try not to waste holidays. Use holidays to cover any gaps in your studies.

●  Choose a study partner. Discuss your doubts and your concepts with them to make sure that you have understood the topic correctly. It will also help in revising.

●  Make good connections with seniors. Learn from their mistakes. Seniors are the best people who can help you understand various aspects of exams.

●  Study thoroughly and systematically. Complete one topic first before jumping to the next.

●  Take care of yourself. Eat healthy food and exercise to keep yourself energized. Give yourself a break from time to time.

●  Make sure you attend all your classes. Make a habit of taking notes and creating shorthand notes while studying. This will help in making revision easy for you.

●  Solve past years’ papers and appear for mock tests to get a clear understanding of your knowledge and score. By taking a test, you can easily understand your weak and strong points.

●  In the last three months, make a strict schedule. Divide each subject and allocate specific time for them.
