Issues Faced By Medical PG Aspirants: The nationwide PG exam has been around for a very long time, and it has always been one of the toughest exams in the country. In recent years, the exam has gone through multiple changes, be it the change in the name or the syllabus, or the exam pattern. Therefore, the way you approach the exam is fundamental to your success. Over the past few years, NEET PG has moved from an offline, paper-based model to an online mode of examination, which has just added to the stress of all the candidates.

A computer-based exam presents various challenges to the test-takers, and unfortunately, these challenges can have a massive impact on the final score. With all the pressure of NEET PG being the most extensive exam a person will ever attend, blocking out all the outside noise and constantly focusing on doing well can be an arduous task. This article mentions some of the significant issues that medical PG aspirants face both due to the digitalization of exams and just the general troubles and how to tackle them and help you prepare well for the NEET PG exam

Mode of preparation

From the first time we visited the school to the end of our schooling days, it is engraved in our psyche that to study well, one must read from a book and learn it by rewriting it on a paper from memory. Now, that may or may not be accurate, but as a result, most of the students learn from textbooks. Continuously following the same age-old method of studying from a book can come back to bite you in the back when preparing for NEET PG. But when the exam is destined to be conducted on a computer, it would be wise for them to practice online. It will be very tough to deploy initially, but in the long run, this will help you develop the habit of reading on a computer screen and solving questions. Also, you can combine offline and online preparation if you want.

Reading speed

Reading speed on a computer is one of the main factors that affect a student’s examination efficiency. It can also be very costly for a student as it cuts down on the number of questions they can attempt. The problem of slow reading speed is a broad issue that transcends multiple troubles that students face, like poor time management, inability to navigate the exam screen, and unfamiliarity with the exam software.

  • Many students fail to grasp the format of the exam and its effect on their performance. This issue increases their chances of getting into the preferred clinical seat.
  • The chances of marking an incorrect option are very few. However, the time taken to mark an incorrect choice is considerable while taking an exam online. Due to the increased popularity of social media platforms, people are more comfortable with navigation. However, if someone is not, then they should not be afraid to practice.
  • Many candidates fail due to a lack of time to answer the questions. This issue can be avoided by carefully planning and practicing time management techniques.

An excellent way to deal with all these issues is to enroll in a test series and attend as many mock tests and practice tests as you can. It will work on your reading speed and time management skills and make you more comfortable with the software used in the NEET PG exam. Check the official website- nbe.edu.in for the latest updates.

The enormous syllabus

Whenever anyone begins to prepare for NEET PG, the first thing that leaves them stunned is the enormity of the syllabus that must be read, understood, and learned. Most aspirants fall into the trap of thinking that the syllabus is too vast to be covered and end up leaving multiple topics because they do not believe in themselves. Is the coverage of NEET PG too much? Yes. Can you prepare all of it along with revisions and mock tests? YES. It is not an easy job to cover all of it, but if you follow a set plan and work hard without losing hope, you can do it.

The ever-changing exam patterns

Since the questions are randomized in the online mode of examination, unlike the offline mode, it is difficult to predict the course pattern of the paper. But several things are known and are unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. First, it is sure that the majority of the exam will be based on clinical questions, questions where more than your cramming prowess, your practical and clinical knowledge will be tested. To tackle this issue, treat your clinical rotation as a part of your preparation and not just a formality that you must fulfil.

Constantly deteriorating mental health

Medical students spend 4.5 years in med school studying so much stuff until immense pressure that they spend most of that time feeling stupid and unworthy. Many studies over the years have cited that more than 50% of medical students suffer from constant depression, anxiety, and burnout, and every medical student has had at least one episode of these. With the exam of your life inching closer, the mental health keeps taking hits and can get to a point where the burnout takes over, and the anxiety is nearly paralyzing. And no matter how motivated or driven you are, you cannot study in such a situation. So, it is imperative that you also look after your mental health along with preparing for your NEET PG examination

Preparing for a competitive exam as big as NEET PG is a long process; it takes months, if not years, of constant toiling to achieve a clinical seat in your dream college. However, the earlier you begin, the more significant edge you get over others. This article intends to familiarize you with the obstacles you may face in your journey, overcome these obstacles, follow the advice, and start preparing now. Doing so will help you improve and perform well in the exam.
